Me and a few friends jamming in the studio. I forget exactly which album we were making.... it was most likely St. Anger judging from the way we look. Man! We really hated the Hell outta each other during the making of THAT one. I thought James was gonna kick Lars' ass on more than one occasion. Just between you and me, I wish he would have cause he's an
Sorry this is so small, but I knew nothing about nothing when I made this. All I knew was I just cut me out of a pic, put me in with Metallica, and it was F-ing cool, man. It was a life changing moment, though I didn't know it then. Later, after my second manipulation, I came back and made it look like my leg was behind one of the guitars... It did something freaky with the perspective or something... doesn't look quite right.... but I ain't changin' it now
Yeah, Photoshoproadmap is a good learning site. Photoshop Cafe and Tutorialized has a few good ones as well.
I can't enlarge the image, but it seems you did a good job cutting yourself from whatever original image it came from.
I have to do a lot of extraction at work. I'm working as an apprentice at a fairly highly credited local photography studio. He's going to teach me more of photography, and I'm going to teach him the design aspects.
Basically, there are only a few simple things to keep in mind. Placement is obviously important, you don't want to look like you're hovering or anything. This one looks pretty good in that aspect though. Other than that, the trick is to get them all to match. Doing some work with the curves, color balances, and levels can get the image of you to match the rest of the photo. One of the big ones typically overlooked is the quality of the shots. If its a bad shot of you, or a bad photo, and the other is a nice clear shot, then you lose a lot of realism. Really quick easy way around that one is to go to filter > Pixelate > Mosaic. Then if you adjust the cell size right, it kind of gives off a look as though its pixelated like the rest of the image.
Funny manip though. I lost a lot of my interest in Metallica when they released St Anger, but I'm a firm believer in to each his own, so I'm not trying to knock them or anything.

Thanks for the kind words, but technically, this is pure crap hehehe. I only posted it as a sort of benchmark to show how far I've come since that muggy summer night 5 years ago.
In all this time it never struck me to use mosaics... I'll have to give that one a try. I've just used noise to give any needed pixelization. Wasn't always 100% happy with the result, though. Thanks for the tip, man
I think a lot of fans are waiting on this next album to see if they're gonna jump ship on the band or not. I know I am. If it's like St. Anger again (I couldn't believe there were no guitar solos!), and it kinda sounds like it will be by the title 'Death Magnet', then I'll probably replace them at the top of my list with Black Label Society. Zakk Wylde is one bad mofo. But I hope not, cause Hetfield has been my hero for years n years.
Congrats on the new job... hope it all works out for the both of ya.

Yeah I was a bit disgusted at St. Anger.... infact I've mostly moved on to industrial... NIN has always been one of my favorites anyway, so I just started looking around for more industrial style artists... with the rock and metal scenes having so much of that nutless wonder emo crap vocals in them... I don't even bother anymore... LOL
